What is Organic Living?

It is … "how to live longer, feel sexier
and become more intelligent -
and help save the world at the same time!"

Jackie French, The Best of Jackie French
(Harper Collins Aust 2000)

Organic living is about thinking and acting responsibly in relation to other people, all living things and the earth. It's about working in harmony with, and not against, nature. Our aim should be to stop using harmful chemicals and instead make effective use of the world’s natural resources. Organic products should also be free of genetically modified organisms.

Sustainable, organic food is healthy, nutritious, and environmentally friendly. Eventually, it should achieve a better balance in the division of the world’s food resources. If we grow food that is sustainable, we will be conserving the world’s natural resources.

What is Organic?

A Certified organic product presupposes that the produce and the farming process has been free of chemical residues over a period of at least 3 years. It has been inspected by an independent, specialist certification agency to verify the organic authenticity to the consumer.

Certification organizations have only one reason to exist: they provide the consumer with the assurance that products and organizations which claim to be organic, really are organic.
Any certification program should be able to give you their standards upon request.
When you buy organic, look for the certification seal or name of the certification agency label. This label means that:-

  • No harmful chemicals have been applied for at least 3 years.
  • The farmer and processor have annual certification inspections.
  • They have kept detailed records of their practices.
  • They use ecologically-friendly methods and substances to improve the soil and control pests.
  • All surplus organic matter is recycled back into the soil
