Reasons to Choose Organic Cotton!

Choosing certified organic cotton is an important decision for your family. It is particularly important for your baby. Certified organic baby gifts are a gift that will be appreciated by any health conscious parent. Here's some reasons why...

They’re safe and healthy – If you buy certified organic cotton, you can be absolutely sure no chemicals or pesticides are used in the entire growing and manufacturing process. All dyes should be eco-friendly and no finishing agents should be used on the fabric that makes your organic cotton baby clothes and baby bedding. You need to start with 100% organic and finish 100% organic. Then your baby will have no harsh chemicals or pesticides close to their skin.

Because organic cotton baby clothes and baby bedding are not exposed to the harsh chemicals that commercially grown cotton is. That means they’re pure, comfortable and soft and will get even softer with each washing.

Organic cotton has minimal environmental impact - Did you know that 25% of the worlds insecticides each year are used on non-organic cotton? These pesticides are very strong, effective and longlived. They pollute the earth for years, seep into the groundwater and cause all sorts of health problems. Each time you choose to buy organic cotton, you create more demand. Eventually therell be more organic cotton and it will be even more affordable!

Organic cotton is easy to wash and long wearing - Conventionally grown cotton is weakened by harsh chemicals so you get a weaker, inferior cotton product. Organic cotton will last many years, with proper care.

When treating stains, the quicker you do it, the better. The longer a stain sits, the more time it has to work into the fibers. Reduce the concentration of problem stains by diluting them with water right away. Use an organic cleaner to remove.

Be very careful how you dry organic cotton apparel. Conventional cotton apparel is usually treated with chemicals to reduce the shrinkage effects of heat. Organic cotton is not treated, so in high heat it is possible for the cotton to shrink more than 10%. Shrinkage is usually worse for the lengths of garments and is less noticeable for widths.

Eco-friendly dyes are just as long lasting as the harmful dyes used on conventional products. They will fade if powerful detergents or bleaching agents are used. Because chemical color fixatives shouldn’t be used, do not mix dark colors with light ones for the first few washes due to dye bleed. For the first wash, add ¼ cup of vinegar to the final rinse, this will help to set the color and resist fading or bleeding. (Vinegar is said to be a good fabric softener, anyway.) It’s best to wash stripes or prints before they are worn. Turn them inside out before washing; this will help lock the colors in for years!

Make sure you do not use chlorine bleach on even natural color cotton products. This bleach will fade the cotton from its natural color and weaken the garments fiber strength.

Organic cotton is very durable - Because it is not exposed to the weakening by harsh chemicals that commercially grown cotton is, organic cotton will last many years, with proper care.
